Description
Turquoise-gold chandelier Lucca 19th century made from the original central cup of turquoise glass decorated with crowns and ends made of embossed and gilded metal, topped in the middle with a glass element in the shape of a reflective golden egg.
The exceptional construction of this antique glass chandelier is supported by three chains, which connect it at the top with embossed and gilded metal crowns. Six curved arms extend from the central golden crown, ending with gilt wooden bobeiges.
It finishes with a teardrop-shaped detail made of transparent blown glass.
The chandelier originates from Lucca and dates back to the late 19th century; it was originally designed to illuminate with candles. It comes from a private residence and has been electrified for six E14 bulbs. An additional internal light illuminates the turquoise bowl. It is now in perfect condition, ready to hang.
Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style, is prominent. Early in the century, this includes neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolve into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was highly ornate, designed to radiate splendor and serve a luxurious role. Unique, selectively used materials emphasized the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which often closely resembles the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Many global brands now reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French creators, reflecting admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country perceived furniture manufacturing differently, giving each style a unique character. This is especially crucial when seeking a luxurious antique that fits your interior.
The key to elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately important for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market.
