Description

Turquoise-gold chandelier Lucca from the 19th century, made from an original central goblet of turquoise glass decorated with crowns and ends made of embossed and gilded metal, topped in the middle with a glass element in the shape of a reflective golden egg.

The exceptional construction of this antique glass chandelier is supported by three chains connecting it at the top to embossed and gilded metal crowns. Six curved arms extend from the central golden crown, ending with gilded wooden bobeiges.

It finishes with a teardrop-shaped detail made of transparent blown glass.

The chandelier originates from Lucca and dates back to the late 19th century; it was originally designed to illuminate with candles. It comes from a private residence and has been electrified for six E14 bulbs, with an additional internal light illuminating the turquoise bowl. It is now in perfect condition, ready to hang.

Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century includes the beloved Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Many global brands now recreate furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when seeking a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market.
