The vibrant colors and patterns of this panel by Robert Burns depict a jungle-like scene for the Greek goddess Diana and her nymphs. Wild birds and animals, including striking leopards in the foreground, reference her role as the goddess of the hunt. The panel is filled with the lively rhythm and energy characteristic of 1920s design. It was created as part of the ambitious decoration of the first floor of Crawford’s Tea Room at 70 Princes Street in Edinburgh. Burns was responsible for every detail of the interior decor, from murals to platters.
