Czech artist Alphonse Mucha was a distinctive figure of the Art Nouveau era and is loved for his images of beautiful women in arabesque poses. His work was so distinctive that it became known as Le Style Mucha, a decorative form of art that made the artist famous in Paris at the end of the 19th century. A large portion of the work he created in his adult life was used for advertisements and posters. This lithograph was originally designed as a calendar image to be placed in the Champenois company's calendar. However, it became so popular so quickly that it appeared in the La Plume magazine as a decorative panel. It was given the title Reverie (dream), as the woman appears like a figure in a dream. Gazing at the viewer, the young woman sits with an open book on her lap, dressed in a flowing dress with voluminous Byzantine-style sleeves. Such a captivating illustration is the epitome of Le Style Mucha.
