Description
Historic, original Empire-style crystal chandelier, dating from the late 18th century, of Italian origin, from a private palace in Piedmont.
Handcrafted, round construction consists of circular brass crowns with engraved geometric decorations on the outer side; the rings are connected by oval crystal chains. The larger crown is adorned with unique leaf clusters resembling ferns, made from crystals strung on an iron core.
The entire structure is finely decorated with crystal ornaments and diamond-shaped prisms. Six arms shaped like scrolls end in noble crystal finials.
This antique chandelier comes from a private Italian residence.
Stylish antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Several key styles stand out among antique furniture. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this included neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe, and Victorian styles. Toward the end of the century, these evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to dazzle and serve as a symbol of opulence. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French craftsmen, as a tribute to the beauty and history of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country had its own approach to furniture-making, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for exclusive antique pieces suitable for your interior.
The key aspect of authentic antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
