Description
Genoese Louis XVI chandelier made of gilded wood and crystals, late 18th century, eight lights, originates from the late 18th century and is in good condition, consistent with its age. This chandelier features a centrally carved wooden shaft decorated with botanical motifs and gilded with noble gold; the central base, composed of several elements, is adorned with handcrafted wrought iron components connected by numerous transparent crystal garlands topped with crystal flowers and embossed, gilded brass crowns. An original detail that, together with the magnificent gilding, emphasizes the taste and timeless elegance of this late 18th-century salon chandelier.
Eight arms extending from the lower wooden element are made of bent, gilded iron and finished with gilded iron beaded accents, considering that the original chandelier was illuminated by candles. It operates with eight E14 bulbs. The given height includes only the chandelier with the large upper hook. Then there is a chain and a ceiling cup approximately 40 cm long.
Original antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a specific character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture belongs to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was dominant. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It was influenced by Napoleon’s reign, which imposed significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles are also interesting and noteworthy. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by very ornate furniture designed to exude splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to further emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and relief decorations. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also of interest, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique suitable for your interior.
The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the customer’s perspective, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
