Description
Pipe for men. Bust of Hans Müller in bronze from the early 20th century, charming figural sculpture with a dark patina on a marble base, signed on the left arm H. Müller. At the lower part of the bronze figure, there are corner marks with the letters BM and AEG, probably from the foundry.
Austrian sculptor Hans Müller was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1873. He was a student of Edmund von Hellmer at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and is best known for his busts of famous members of the Vienna Society. He modeled several animal sculptures, mainly hunting dogs.
This bust was probably cast around 1910, during the peak of Art Nouveau. Condition is good, with a beautiful dark patina, minor chips on the marble profiles of the base.
Exquisite antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th centuries, originating from the Napoleonic era. It features significant influences from Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Classical furniture, such as Louis XVI style, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to impress with splendor. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which often resembles the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often finished with brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance style. Many global brands now reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, honoring the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its unique character. This is especially relevant when searching for exclusive antique pieces suited to your interior.
The key aspect of authentic antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and correspondence with the description and photos. We also have access to art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world.
