A girl as a symbol of the zodiac sign Cancer - Sibania

The Crab is a symbol strongly associated with protecting feelings, and in its pose, we find care and the embrace of loved ones. A simple yet sophisticated dress symbolizes its sensitivity, while tulle overlays rolled into the skirt resemble the iconography of the sign: eight crab legs, four in front and four behind, giving the figure an early 20th-century accent that pairs well with its nostalgic soul. Hair gathered into two flowing ponytails again evoke a crab, especially when they fall into red curls like claws. 

The colors of Cancer are white and delicate pink, which it wears, while the eyes take on the color of the Water element and are primarily purple, almost transparent. Finally, the hair is brown to remind of the sign's summery character. Like other Water Signs, the Cancer dress is decorated with white tulle details to give it lightness and fluidity.  The Cancer symbol is hidden in the bra, at the front and back, where two tulle curls rest on an arched edge.

Every item produced by Sibania is absolutely unique both in the craftsmanship of each piece and in the technique used, which is unparalleled and makes imitation difficult. These items are entirely modeled and hand-painted in our laboratory in Vicenza (Italy). The garments are thin porcelain sheets with printed textures. These sheets are cut according to the dress pattern and then patiently applied to the sculpture's torso. Hair styles are also occasionally crafted by hand. On the "biscuit" terracotta, faces, clothing, and accessories are painted with non-toxic colors; the piece is finally subjected to a further firing called the "third fire". Any additional details, such as violin strings or stand supports, are added at this stage to the finished piece.

Inspired by the stylistic and technical features of traditional porcelain craftsmanship known as Capodimonte, Sibania has been producing porcelain since 1980. Building on this tradition, characterized by exceptional manual skills, the company strives to introduce continuous innovations while maintaining handcrafted techniques and Italian craftsmanship as a reference point.

The manufactory places great importance on the evolving tradition of artisan workshops, with detailed material research, and aims for continuous product innovation with respect for human health: using only non-toxic, lead-free, cadmium-free, and other hazardous substances. After experience with Capodimonte porcelain, it can be proudly stated that since the mid-1980s, Sibania has been a leading company in the production of porcelain dolls. Indeed, since the 1980s, production has been based on proprietary biscuit component models for major artisan workshops and porcelain doll companies in Italy. In 1998, the company began producing figurines, small sculptures mainly depicting children. On one hand, they continuously draw on the finishing and decorating techniques learned from Capodimonte, and on the other, they introduce new stylistic and technical methods. The unique and specific techniques used by Sibania, along with the widespread manual skills, allow us to say that their works are truly one of a kind.

These romantic figurines aim to represent the world—a world of childhood, full of emotions and evoking feelings in those who come into contact with it; believing that the purity of porcelain makes it the most suitable material for artistically depicting childhood innocence and purity. Traditional techniques serve as a starting point for creating these sculptures, but a more innovative and contemporary approach is reflected in the company's work, which features a distinctive expression that is both current and modern. These figurines are collectible items, but their expressive nature can easily convey care or a message, making them occasionally especially meaningful gifts.
