Description

"Traces of the Karakalli circus near Via Appia and the S. Bastiano church, which in ancient times was used for celebrating banquets and other games, its length is 223 reeds, width 33.5. Today, this place is a meadow by the sign A, where a temple of Mars once stood according to the traces you see." This view is taken from the series “Traces of Antiquity in Rome, Tivoli, Pozzuolo, and other places,” engraved by Sadeler, drawing inspiration from the series by the French artist Stefano Du Pérac, using burin technique and in a reduced format.

The work consists of 50 plates published by Marco Sadeler in 1606 in Prague, a very active cultural center, under the same title “Traces of Antiquity in Rome,” with the same descriptions by Du Pérac in Italian, not to mention the inventor. Sadeler, court engraver of Rudolf II, traveled to Germany and Italy, staying in Rome in 1593. His works also include views "... Tivoli, Pozzuolo, and other locations," which are absent in these thirteen new plates, emphasizing the naturalistic aspect.

In perfect condition, with wide margins, presented in a walnut frame.

This is one of the most important iconographic collections for avid travelers during the Grand Tour.

Luxurious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a specific character and soul. It’s a nod to history, the creation, and design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture is from the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was dominant. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Everything originated from Napoleon’s reign, which imposed a significant resemblance and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture is in the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, a name derived from the Portuguese “barocco” – meaning irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to further emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has on modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making art. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These were quite distinctive products but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cupboards and broadly speaking, chest furniture. They also drew inspiration from mythology and ancient times, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion’s paws, eagle’s heads – these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French creators, as a tribute to and preservation of the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
