Description

This is a colorful copperplate engraving depicting the territories of Pavia, Lodi, and Piacenza, created by Thomas Salmon and published by Albrizzi in 1750. Salmon, known for his cartographic and travel works, contributed to the understanding of the geography and culture of his time.

The work from which the map originates, “Current State of All Countries and Peoples of the Natural, Political, and Moral World,” reflects 18th-century geographers’ interest in a comprehensive view of world geography. The map itself, with its dimensions (335x412 mm), color scheme, and folding spine, indicates its practical use and status as a collectible item.

Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture belongs to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was prevalent. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Original Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from Napoleon’s reign. It was characterized by significant influence and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese “barocco”—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was highly decorative furniture meant to shine with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style is also significant; flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, it left a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and relief decorations. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands recreate such furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production varied across countries, with each style having its unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for a luxurious antique suitable for your interior.

The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We also have appraisers, art experts, and historians from around the world at your disposal.
