Description

A desk made of rosewood and gilded bronze from the Napoleonic era, a magnificent French work table from the late 19th century, crafted from bois de violette, with a wavy shape, featuring a square-shaped top with brass inlays and surrounded by gilded bronze beading on the edge. This is a central table, and all sides are framed with bronze; the front is additionally decorated with a floral motif nozzle and a shaped lower ribbon, with a removable drawer consisting of a deep compartment for storing essential household items of the time, mainly sewing supplies. Working lock and key.

It rests on tall, arched legs decorated with gilded bronze elements. When opened, it is equipped with a mirror under the top and a pull-out shelf divided into three compartments.

It comes from a wealthy private family from Milan and is in good condition; it has been restored and polished with shellac in our workshop.

Stylish antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, creation, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its characteristic features.

Many styles distinguish antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevailing Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Everything originated from the reign of Napoleon, characterized by significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Notable and worth mentioning are antique products in Rococo style and Louis XV. Next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the past era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These were quite distinctive products, but they also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. During this period, mythology and ancient times were also of interest, so supports and legs often took animal forms.

Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. And this is ultimately crucial for the buyer, as many counterfeits circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
