Gustav Klimt is one of the most renowned artists of the Vienna Secession and Art Nouveau. The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I is part of the artist’s groundbreaking Golden Phase. Inspired by Byzantine mosaics, the image is covered with gold and silver leaf and decorated with textured relief featuring intricate geometric patterns. Klimt’s work was pivotal in the evolution of art from the 19th to the 20th century, and his influence on illustration was immense. In the second half of the 20th century, his works were particularly valued, and in the early 21st century, his paintings, drawings, and graphics fetched some of the highest prices ever recorded for individual artworks.
