Arthur Rackham (1867–1939) was one of the most influential artists of the Golden Age of Illustration. He worked on timeless classics such as Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906) and illustrated editions of William Shakespeare's plays, including A Midsummer Night's Dream (1908), which featured his first fairy tale illustration that brought him fame. He also illustrated the 1907 edition of Alice in Wonderland, from which this illustration of Alice at the Tea Party with the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, and the Dormouse is taken. Alice is at a tea party with the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, and the exhausted Dormouse. The Hatter explains that they must drink tea all day because Time punishes him by stopping at 6:00 pm—of course, teatime.
