The author of the Iranian national epic Shahnama (“Book of Kings”), the Persian poet Abu'l-Qasim Mansur Firdawsi (c. 940–1019/1025), also known as Ferdowsi, is one of the most renowned figures in literary history. One of the longest epic poems written by a single poet, the Shahnama, is a chronicle of Persian myths and history, from the creation of the world to the fall of the Sasanian Empire and the Muslim conquest.
