Description

Pair of carved acanthus leaf-shaped capitals from Florence, 1900. A pair of Florentine pedestals, table bases made of carved wood, decorated on all four sides with a deep, botanical acanthus leaf pattern. The tops of these bases are chamfered at the corners with sides measuring 23.5 cm. As a table base, adding a square glass top to these Corinthian capitals creates an original pair of coffee tables; they are in good condition, with a warm, pickled finish. This is Tuscan artisanal craftsmanship by Bartolozzi and Maioli from Florence, dating to the first half of the 20th century.

Original antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but we can highlight a few of the most important. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It was inspired by Napoleon’s reign, which emphasized grandeur and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily on ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—features highly ornate furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the opulence of these pieces.

Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style is also significant, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and leaving a profound mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, cornices, sturdy pedestals, and relief decorations. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently across countries, and each style had its unique character. This is especially crucial when selecting a luxurious antique piece for your interior.

The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is vital for buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and accurate description and photos. We also have experts, art appraisers, and historians from around the world at your disposal.
