Description

Oil painting on canvas depicting a harbor, view of Camogli from a small marina with boats and a hilly landscape with architecture in the background. The work by Milanese painter Francesco Ros signed F Ros in the lower left corner. In perfect condition, with frame. Presented in a gold-colored wooden frame and coming from a private collection in Milan.

Born in 1950 in Milan, Francesco Ros began painting at a very early age, at just twelve years old, before graduating from the Art School of Brera. He mainly focuses on Milanese urban painting and paints with quick, cosmopolitan brushstrokes, a term coined by the artist himself in '78 to indicate a combination of realistic inspiration and sentimental vision.

“Deeply Lombard in understanding of painting, in portraits, but even more so in landscapes, Ros is the last exponent of the Chiarist tradition, which he consolidates in his staging, reinterpreting it in an original way ... His landscapes, scenes of life, his portraits, are suggested rather than fully rendered, imbued with opalescent shades of nuances and brightened colors, resulting from a very particular relationship with the world, accepting its continuous flow and knowing how to relate to it without overlays, without fiction or assumptions. "

Critique excerpted from press information from his personal exhibition in 2005 at Galleria Atelier - via Frisi, 12, Milan.

Luxury antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that have a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, especially the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles blend into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It all stems from Napoleon’s reign. It imposed a significant resemblance and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the past era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. It can certainly be said that these were quite specific products, but they also opened up many new possibilities, such as the construction of cupboards or broadly speaking, chest furniture. They also drew inspiration from mythology and ancient times, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian or French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its own character in a given nation. This is especially crucial when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial from the buyer's perspective, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
