Description
The portrait of artist Fryderyk II of Prussia. An oval miniature portrait of the King of Prussia, Fryderyk II Hohenzollern, known as Fryderyk Wielki, is depicted in a military uniform, with a blue jacket with a red collar and a large embellishment on the chest. The king's miniature is signed in white on the right side of Fryderyk II's back, but it is not legible. The painting is framed under glass in an oval bronze frame with carved decoration. It is in good condition, dating from the 19th century, and originates from Austria.
Neoclassical furniture is in the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Interesting and noteworthy are all antique products in the Rococo style and Louis XV. Next is Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco' – which translates to an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly representative pieces of furniture, literally dripping with brilliance and playing a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to further emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style had on modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the former era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and also left a significant mark on furniture-making art. Renaissance style was quite heavy and bulky. Brown stains, cornices, sturdy plinths, and bas-reliefs were used. These were quite distinctive products, but they also offered many new possibilities, such as the construction of sideboards or broadly understood chest furniture. Here, too, there was an interest in mythology and ancient times, so supports or legs took animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads – these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture made in this style, taking inspiration from Italian or French creators. This is a sign of admiration and care for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its own character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique suitable for your interior.
The most important aspect of vintage antique furniture is originality. And this is ultimately crucial from the buyer’s perspective, as many counterfeit items circulate on the market.
