Description
Oil painting of Salvator Mundi on canvas from 1700. Depicted in the sky among clouds, the Child Jesus is shown nude and directly visible, covered with a soft red drapery, which with his left hand holds a blue globe, and with his right raises a crucifix. His right foot is placed on the head of an angelic dragon, which appears to have a resigned gaze. The painting represents the victory of Faith over evil, a concept reinforced by the Light illuminating the Child Jesus against the dark background. The lining of the painting dates from 1700 and is in good condition. It features a matching frame with a simple silver leafed border.
Prestigious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century includes the beloved Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque influences.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate and luxurious furniture designed to shine with splendor and serve as a symbol of opulence. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can observe how the Baroque style has greatly influenced modern classical furniture, which often resembles the craftsmanship of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cupboards and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.
The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photographs. We also have experts in art appraisal, history, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
