Description
Folding mahogany table with leaves, of English origin, in excellent condition. The cabinet can serve as a console when two extensions are closed.
Restored, we raised the legs according to our standard because the originals were broken at the bowl-shaped supports. The photographic details show the table before renovation.
It dates from the early 20th century and comes from a private residence. Each extension measures 30 cm; when extended with both, the top becomes nearly round and measures 115 x 120 cm.
Prestigious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Everything was influenced by Napoleon’s reign, which imposed a strong resemblance to Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles are also interesting and worth noting. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by very ornate furniture meant to shine with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Exclusive materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style is also significant, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and leaving a profound mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style its unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.
The most important aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
