Description

Antonio Zatta Embassy Urbino and the government of Città di Castello Venice 1783 Geographical map taken from the work of publisher Antonio Zatta, Atlante novissimo, illustrated and supplemented with observations and discoveries made by the most renowned and contemporary geographers. Published in Venice between 1775–1785, engraved with copperplate and etcher. Most of the plates were drawn by Giovanni Pitter and engraved by Giuliano Zulian, with beautiful original coloring. At the bottom left of our map, there is a beautiful cartouche depicting a landscape showing the Furlo gorge cut through a tunnel from the Via Flaminia side, with several buildings, perhaps inns and military forts, all beautifully colored in the style of the period. The map indicates only the territories marked in the legend, making it exceptionally clear and easy to read; the Alps are didactically grouped by only those peaks that, with shaded sides, give the map appropriate depth. The sheet is in good condition, with a fold in the middle and a small stain on the Adriatic Sea. It is framed in a modern frame.

Original antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was dominant. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles transitioned into pseudo-styles of classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Original Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, which imposed a significant resemblance and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Interesting and noteworthy are antique products in Rococo style and Louis XV. Next is Baroque, a term derived from Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate brilliance and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the past era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making art. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of sideboards and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the customer’s perspective, as many counterfeit products circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides a certificate confirming the product’s compliance with its description and photos. We also have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
