Description

An antique wrought iron sign featuring an eagle from the 18th century, Italian ready-to-hang sign made of hand-forged iron. The double frame with scroll-shaped edges, floral and botanical motifs, decorated with ornamentation, surrounds the eagle in the center, topped with an oval crown with acanthus leaves. The eagle is depicted with its body facing forward and wings spread; in Greek and Latin mythology, it is a bird dedicated to Zeus, the god of lightning and clouds.

The eagle is also a symbol of power, victory, and prosperity. It is an ideal architectural element that will give a unique character to the entrance of a villa, old farm, or castle. This sign dates from the late 18th century, originating from northern Italy but purchased in Franciacorta. Good condition, visible traces of gold embellishments on both sides of the sign, minimal chips, two leaves. It is a perfect and exceptional architectural element for the entrance to a castle or an old farm.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style. Early in that century, you can find antique neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, or the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Original Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, heavily influenced by Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly ornate, statement pieces designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using brown stains, with moldings, strong bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the customer’s perspective, as many fakes circulate on the market.
