Description

The cast bronze knight with a shaped base made of green marble depicts a mounted figure, probably inspired by the famous painting of King Gioacchino Murat of Naples in one of his uniforms.

The knight and horse figures are decorated with gilded elements, as well as a profile surrounding the base and a flag of the conquered territories placed on the ground, under the horse. The sculpture now features an oxidized silver finish, creating an elegant contrast with the gilding and indicating excellent craftsmanship.

This antique bronze is in excellent condition, of French origin, dating from the mid-19th century.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. There is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, creating and designing classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style, is notable. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. This style features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also strongly references ancient architecture. Antique products in the Rococo and Louis XV styles are also interesting and noteworthy. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by very ornate furniture designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. They often drew inspiration from mythology and antiquity, with supports and legs taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
