Description

An cast bronze knight with a shaped base made of green marble, depicting a mounted figure probably inspired by the famous painting of King Gioacchino Murat of Naples in one of his uniforms.

The knight and horse figures are decorated with gilded elements, as well as a profile surrounding the base and a flag of the conquered territories placed on the ground, under the horse. The sculpture now features an oxidized silver finish, creating an elegant contrast with the gilding and indicating excellent craftsmanship.

This antique bronze is in excellent condition, of French origin, and dates from the mid-19th century.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be a perfect idea for decorating our interiors. Nowadays, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century, especially during the Biedermeier period, is notable. Early in the century, you can find antique neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque influences.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. This style features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The next style is Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. Baroque furniture was highly ornate, designed to shine with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classic furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. They often incorporated mythological and ancient motifs, with supports and legs shaped like animals.

Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands recreate such pieces, drawing inspiration from Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently across countries, and each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos.
