The Amedei company was founded in 1990 by siblings Alessio and Cecilia Tessieri, and its name comes from their maternal grandmother's surname. It's a company with traditions, which after years of hard work can boast of producing one of the best chocolates in the world.
1990 THE BIRTH OF AMEDEI - Amedei's journey begins with a small artisan workshop in search of excellence. A path built step by step through studies, passion, and rediscovery of ancient processing methods. An adventure that reaches far to the distant origins of cocoa, where Amedei found the most precious plantations and seeds in the world, establishing full control over the entire production chain.
1998 TOSCANO BLACK 70 - The raw material, originally selected by Amedei, arrives directly in Tuscany, the land of creativity and genius, to be transformed into small works of art through skillful dosing and manual processing of a few selected ingredients. Thus was born the first creation signed by Amedei, Toscano Black 70, a perfectly balanced 70% extra dark blend with a unique aromatic profile featuring notes of tobacco, roasted malt, and cedar wood.
2008 TOSCANO BLACK 63 - Amedei wins its first Golden Bean award for Toscano Black 63 at the Academy of Chocolate in London, one of the most qualified international institutions in the world of chocolate. Over the years, the same Academy has awarded Amedei chocolates the highest number of Golden Beans in history.
2012 BLANCO DE CRIOLLO - Deep expertise combined with creative genius in experimenting with modern blends led Amedei to introduce Blanco de Criollo to the market. Thus was born a vintage chocolate, where the search for the wildest and most aromatic cocoa combines with the love of those who know how to tame it and turn it into chocolate for true connoisseurs.
2018 ACERO 95 - In the laboratory, the tradition of meticulous handwork meets innovation. Amedei challenges its own philosophy and wisdom, creating a 95% dark chocolate with a strong and sweet flavor. The absolute innovation of this product lies in replacing cane sugar with maple sugar, a precious ingredient with a sweet, refined taste.
2019 TOSCANO BROWN - Amedei's Toscano Brown wins the "La Tavoletta D'oro" award as the best Italian milk chocolate at La Compagnia del Cioccolato. The prestigious Tavoletta D'oro is the eighth accolade that the Italian company producing excellent artisan chocolate has received for the first of its milk chocolates.
Where does the cocoa come from/how is Amedei chocolate made?
The founders of the company set the goal from the very beginning to produce their own chocolate directly from cocoa beans. Amedei Schokolade sources cocoa beans from selected plantations around the world. Additionally, the factory was the first company in the world to process cocoa beans from the famous Chuao growing area north of Caracas. The beans collected there are still of pure variety and have not been crossbred with other beans, as the plantation is only accessible by sea.
An artisan from Pontedera controls the entire production chain and selects the most sought-after raw materials, processing them using ancient methods to bring to life exquisite creations made from a few top-quality ingredients: cocoa beans (such as Criollo and Trinitario), cane sugar, selected milk, and fruits. Mastery in cocoa processing is the result of years of agronomic knowledge and experimentation.
