Description

Set of Empire chandeliers made of Czech crystal and bronze from the first half of the 20th century, with eight internal lamps, in excellent condition.

Two chandeliers feature a classic round hot air balloon shape, with droplet forms and bronze crowns, well-carved castings with decorative ovolo motifs, beads, and botanical patterns.

Bronze crowns are connected by a cascade of crystal festoons, which are actually dressed in light with faceted crystals and arranged in gradation, all handcrafted during the restoration phase. The pair of chandeliers has been restored, see the before restoration photo and the re-electrified version.

The lower part of the structure, in line with the main crown, houses eight E27 bulbs arranged radially, which illuminate the crystals from inside, enhancing the refraction effect and the vivid glow of the shining crystals, giving this type of chandelier its name.

They are commonly called balloon chandeliers or hot air balloon chandeliers precisely because of the decorative elements made of transparent Czech crystal illuminated from within, creating a valuable and scenographic effect. They measure 135 cm in height (without chain) and 70 cm in diameter.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior design. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century includes the beloved Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this evolved into neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe, or Victorian styles. Toward the end of the century, these styles transitioned into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from the Napoleonic era, heavily influenced by Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws strongly from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco' meaning irregularly developed pearl, was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious pieces meant to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in opulence. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which often mirrors the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These pieces were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, especially in the construction of cabinets and chest-type furniture. Mythology and classical themes were popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Today, many global brands recreate such furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, reflecting admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially crucial when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market.
