Description

Pair of carved wooden friezes from the 18th century, lacquered in blue and adorned with pure gold, probably part of a liturgical decorative ensemble. Made from lime wood, this pair of ancient decorative friezes in Renaissance style, but carved in the 18th century, was framed, though the frames are now missing, which explains the irregular, unfinished edge. The decorative motif in the form of a convex candelabrum was achieved through alternating placement of love knots, fruits, and grapes, which are carved and dry-gilded, standing out against the background painted with blue tempera. The carved and gold-leafed grapes at the ends symbolize abundance and wealth, similar to the pomegranate, a fruit traditionally associated with prosperity and good fortune.

Two rectangular panels measuring approximately 170 cm in height are in good condition, with only minor gilding losses. They have hooks at the top, allowing for vertical hanging, for example on door sides, as architectural elements from the period.

Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation and design of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture belongs to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was dominant. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles transitioned into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Original Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, deriving its name from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture meant to exude splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to further emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style as well is Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. During this period, there was also an interest in mythology and antiquity, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, reflecting admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, and each style had its own character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the customer’s perspective, as many counterfeit products circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
