Description

Montegrappa, the most respected manufacturer of writing instruments in Italy, is pleased to announce the creation of a series of pens honoring the Swiss resort – St Moritz, with the premiere coinciding with the 2010 St Moritz Arts Masters. These events are a mutual fitting representation: of the town itself and the luxury atmosphere surrounding the fountain pens and rollers.

St. Moritz is unlike any other resort, symbolizing everything that should be on a Swiss postcard: elegance and refinement, exclusivity, yet warmth and openness. It is wonderful that the influence St Moritz has on global consciousness, since it first welcomed skiers nearly 150 years ago, has grown enough to become a film and literary destination for luxury getaways.

As early as 1934, Alfred Hitchcock shot the opening scenes of the film “The Man Who Knew Too Much” in this city. It also served as a beautiful backdrop for the film “Goldfinger,” part of the James Bond series, made exactly 30 years later, as well as for “For Your Eyes Only” in 1981. Bond creator Ian Fleming clearly knew he had found a good location: the surroundings of St Moritz also served as the residence of the villain Blofeld in the novel “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” The most romantic musician, Peter Sarstedt, listed St Moritz among the elite places in his timeless song “Where Do You Go To My Lovely.” Mentioning it alone exudes haute monde sophistication.

However, St Moritz offers much more than skiing, golf, and other recreational activities. Every year, the city hosts art, renowned exhibitions, seminars, walks, and other attractions. The 2010 St Moritz Arts Masters is an event held for the third time, taking place from August 27 to September 5. A gathering of artists, collectors, experts, and critics – a rare opportunity to publicly enjoy art in all its aspects.

This event’s representation will thus be an excellent form of promotion for Montegrappa and the famous town, showcasing their exclusivity. The artist can use the pen as a tool to depict a work of art adorned with a visual representation of St Moritz. To decorate the bodies, Montegrappa’s designer selected three historic posters illustrating the wide range of attractions in St Moritz. Each image is hand-painted by artist Lorena Straffi. The ballpoint pens are made from celluloid – a costly material derived from cotton fiber combined with natural dyes and mother-of-pearl, then decorated with sterling silver. In this limited edition, 300 ballpoint pens are made from red-colored celluloid and sterling silver.
