Description

Oak chest with bottles of alcohol 1800, English captain Edward John Ward's chest, a soldier of the Royal Academy, with a brass hidden handle engraved with the inscription Capt. E.J. Ward R. A. and initials in printed letters L.S.D. The box contains two dark glass bottles, handles with grips, as well as an embossed silver seal and cap. The LSD numbers are engraved on the neck of the bottle, matching the initials on the handle. The marks on the cap confirm silver assay 925/000 and indicate the Sheffield Assay Office from 1860/61, with a silversmith's initials H.A., unidentified.

The brass lock comes from the well-known Chubb company from London. The box is in good condition, apart from the green lining, which shows signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Inside the box are documents confirming the soldier's career and death. Edward John Ward 1836-1879.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be a perfect idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevalent Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon, emphasizing Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo style and Louis XV. Baroque, deriving from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious pieces designed to impress with their splendor and play a significant role in opulence. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which often mirrors the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially relevant when searching for a luxurious antique that fits perfectly into your interior.

The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to the buyer, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides a certificate confirming the product's authenticity and compliance with the description and photos.
