New St Andrews 2012 Montegrappa Fountain Pen Black Silver

Montegrappa, one of the most renowned manufacturers of writing instruments for over 100 years, has been asked for the second time to create a pen to honor the most significant breakthrough event in golf: the creation of the St Andrews golf course. Drawing on its experience as an initiator among luxury writing instrument producers, Montegrappa is proud to offer the perfect pen to commemorate "Home Of Golf" – the headquarters of golf, the St Andrews golf courses.

In 2010, the 150th anniversary of "The Open Championship" was celebrated at the oldest golf course in the world – "The Old Course" in St Andrews. This inspired the creation of a new range of writing instruments produced by Montegrappa, showcasing the quality, history, and beauty associated with the golf courses in St. Andrews.

This collection features green celluloid with a highlighted cabochon golf ball on the cap and the St Andrews golf course logo on the body, which, according to Montegrappa, pays tribute to six centuries of golf played at St Andrews, dating back to around 1400 AD. During the 19th century, golf evolved from factory workers' pastime into a way of life for the local community. Golf remains a cultural and economic cornerstone of St Andrews to this day.
In the 2012 edition, Montegrappa offers fountain pens and ballpoint pens in black resin and sterling silver or in a version with bamboo-black colored celluloid and 18K rose gold. The writing instruments made of sterling silver will be produced in a limited edition of 600 pieces each; this number represents the number of years of golf at St Andrews. The gold versions are limited to only 7 fountain pens and 7 ballpoint pens, symbolizing the number of golf courses there.
The final, special, hand-engraved edition called "18th Hole" completes the collection with 18 fountain pens and 18 ballpoint pens made of 18K rose gold and green celluloid. The pattern on the body depicts a golfer in period attire preparing to strike. The image has been skillfully recreated from an original photograph by engraver Mario Rossetti. The ring surrounding the cap is decorated with golf images.
