Description

On his 70th birthday anniversary, Montegrappa is pleased to pay tribute to the legendary Bruce Lee with a series of writing instruments called "Icons". It honors both the giant of culture, regardless of the field in which his achievements have been elevated to global heights. This series pays tribute to both an individual who ranks on every list of the most influential of the 20th century and the most impactful personality, as reflected in Montegrappa's rich history. Combining these two elements, a commemorative pen has been created that holds great significance and evokes many memories.

For the second pen in the "Icons" series, Montegrappa chose a figure who embodied everything noble in martial arts through the art of film. In doing so, she opened the West to Eastern martial arts, helping to create martial arts films outside Hong Kong; a genre that remained popular 37 years after his death. Thanks to his success in films, Lee sparked a sudden surge of interest in Chinese martial arts in the West in 1970. But he was more than a "kung fu" actor: he gained the Chinese audience as a role model, respecting Chinese culture, while his dedication to martial arts resulted in an individual style called "Jeet Kune Do" (The Way of the Intercepting Fist). In 1999, on the eve of the new millennium, Bruce Lee was named by "Time Magazine" as one of the hundred most influential people of the 20th century.

It is a fitting choice for Montegrappa to select Bruce Lee as a model for the long-awaited interpretation of one of the most coveted pens: The Dragon. Bruce Lee was known as "The Dragon"—a dragon—because he was born in the year and hour of the dragon in the Chinese horoscope. Additionally, the year 2010, marking the 70th anniversary of his birth, is also the 15th anniversary of the introduction of the Dragon pen by Montegrappa in 1985.

In Chinese iconography, the Dragon holds special significance. It became a national symbol in 1912—the same year Montegrappa began producing writing instruments. This limit has celebrated the meeting of two cultures: East and West, since 1995. The fountain pen was born under the sign of the dragon, a fascinating symbolic figure, interpreted by skilled hands of the artist—Federico Monti. The image of the dragon was brought to life on the body and cap of the Montegrappa creation, transforming the writing instrument into a work of art inspired by myths and legends.

Montegrappa produced 1912 original pens to commemorate the founding year of the company. They were made from black celluloid and sterling silver. Only 100 fountain pens were issued in 18K gold. The fountain pen featured a piston filling system and was available in 6 nib sizes. These pens are rarefound only among collectors.

Reminding of the original, the new pen differs from the 1995 model in the design of the clip, color, details of the dragon's tail on the body, nib sizes, and the top of the cap. The limited edition "The Dragon 2010 Bruce Lee" features a body and cap made of red celluloid with black streaks. The cap's finial is decorated with the timeless yin-yang symbol, representing balance. The cap and body are embraced by beautifully carved dragons; in the sterling silver version, their eyes are set with rubies, and in the more luxurious versions, with other precious stones. The nib depicts Bruce Lee's profile in his famous movement: foot and fist extended, in a jump.

This is undoubtedly an interesting and excellent gift idea that will evoke Bruce Lee's symbolic spirit with every pull of the pen.
