These small masterpieces of craftsmanship with unique and refined symbolism honor the art of writing as a means of transmitting knowledge (from Greek, sophia) and developing human thought.
Limited collections by Montegrappa pay tribute to the modern world. Capturing the uniqueness of Italian style and an unmistakable symbol of elegance is the Montegrappa Sophia collection.
The cap features a reproduction of the Rosetta stone, a highly significant artifact from an archaeological perspective. Its surface bears text inscribed using three different writing systems (hieroglyphs, pictographic script, and classical Greek). The cap decoration is complemented by other symbols inspired by ancient Egyptian civilization: examples of hieroglyphs and pictographic writing, the image of a sphinx, pyramids, and the depiction of the god of knowledge, to whom the inhabitants of ancient Egypt attributed the attribute of the inventor of writing.
At first glance, the design of the body pays homage to the pursuit of knowledge, a widespread theme in ancient Greece. The symbolism is inspired by the famous fresco Raphael's "School of Athens", which depicts philosophers: Aristotle, Plato, and the great mathematician and thinker — Pythagoras. The surface of the Limited Edition Sophia body is also enriched with some of the 4000 figures representing all the alphabets of the world, whose images adorn the walls of the new Library of Alexandria.
The cap and body of these exceptional instruments are made entirely of yellow gold, then decorated with an extremely exclusive technique of hand hot-gilding, where applications of yellow and rose gold (or rose and white gold) beautifully highlight numerous details and hidden symbolism.
