Description
The masterful, limited edition "Serie Montegrappa Icons" pays tribute to cultural icons, regardless of the fields in which their character and achievements have led them to receive global awards. The Italian manufactory initiated this individual series with a remarkable, yet controversial personality, who features prominently on every list of the most influential and powerful figures of the 20th century. The man who revolutionized boxing at every level is none other than Muhammad Ali. He not only created an enviable ring record but also established an image of a heroic figure outside it.
On November 9, 2005, Muhammad Ali received the Freedom Medal: “Otto Hahn Peace Medal In Gold” awarded by the United Nations Association in Germany, for his contribution to the human rights movement. In terms of his influence on the 20th century, he became an icon of the highest rank
To reflect elements of Muhammad Ali’s diverse and varied career, Montegrappa combines several characteristic details in the “Tribute to Muhammad Ali” Icon pen. The nib depicts the signature victorious silhouette with raised arms, a symbol associated with this athlete, positioned just above the name Ali. A shining black resin grip between the nib and the pen body, as well as the body itself finished with pearl resin with a black stripe running parallel to the body, are inspired by the distinctive shorts of the boxing champion.
To achieve the desired black-and-white effect, Montegrappa used the most advanced material with unique properties. It has half the weight of glass of the same thickness, excellent optical clarity, and light transmission properties. Additionally, it possesses the ability to withstand extreme temperatures and offers excellent bending resistance and better durability against damage. Equally important is the emotional pleasure for the writer, derived from the physical contact with a warm-to-the-touch pen.
The top of the body is decorated with two black bands encircling it, reminiscent of Ali’s socks.
The clip, adorned with a characteristic Montegrappa ball, evokes the shape of the seam on his boxing gloves. The cap layout is designed for speed, while the top of the cap features a ring with the inscription “Word Championship”, set with diamonds. Finally, the cap is decorated with a black-signed autograph, and the top bears an engraved inscription: “Ali The Greatest of All Time”. The limited edition: Icons “Tribute to Muhammad Ali” references the boxer’s life.
The pen concludes his sporting career, which he began on October 29, 1960, with his first professional fight against Tunney Hunsaker, and his last, fought on December 11, 1981, against Trevor Berbick.
Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1984, Ali is still regarded and perceived as an exceptional person and athlete today.
The year 1942 is his birth year. The number 61 represents the total number of fights in his professional ring, including 56 wins, 37 by knockout. Guided by these numbers, Montegrappa created 1942 fountain pens and 1942 ballpoint pens made of resin and sterling silver, as well as 61 fountain pens and 56 ballpoint pens made of gold.
An exclusive “knockout” edition is also available, featuring gold accents and diamonds set on the top of the cap. Only 37 pieces will be produced, and the customer will decide whether it will be a fountain pen or a ballpoint pen. Each gold version will bear a number corresponding to a specific opponent and fight. Each pen will be engraved with the surname of the fighter, as well as the date and location of the event.
During one of the few recent interviews, Muhammad Ali summarized his contribution to global culture with a characteristic blend of humility and pride, which defines his place in the limited edition “Icons”: …I want to be remembered as a black man who won the heavyweight world title, who was witty and treated everyone well, as a person who never looked down on those who admired him, as a person who represented freedom, justice, and equality, and I want people to remember what a good person I was."
This exclusive pen is the perfect gift for collectors of timeless icons. It expresses the heroic attitude demonstrated by both Muhammad Ali and Montegrappa in the pursuit of excellence. Highly recommended!- Manufacturer
