High-class GOLD rollerball pen Yuri Gagarin Montegrappa

Montegrappa proudly honored one of the greatest heroes of the 20th century by creating a limited edition pen for the 50th anniversary of his historic spaceflight — Yuri Gagarin. Since 1912, Montegrappa has been producing high-quality writing instruments in its historic building in Bassano del Grappa, North East Italy. This groundbreaking and most exciting period in human history, marked by a continuous desire for exploration, became an inspiration for the Italian manufactory.

Yuri Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934, in Klushino, Russia. Gagarin was a Soviet Air Force pilot who, in 1960, after a selection process, was chosen from 19 other pilots to join the Soviet space program. He became the first human to travel into space.

The original idea was for the pen to represent the first part of the Cosmopolitan collection; however, the significant 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight prompted the Italian manufacturer to create a special limited edition. The Montegrappa Yuri Gagarin pen joins other prestigious awards and recognitions, including a series of commemorative ruble coins issued by the USSR for the anniversaries of 20, 30, and 40 years, as well as the title Hero of the Soviet Union, awarded after the renaming of the town Gzhatsk to Gagarin in 1968.

Master craftsmen at Montegrappa engraved the body with a bas-relief image of Yuri Gagarin, bordering an interplanetary motif, on the USSR emblem. The clip, equipped with a rotating ball, facilitates easy application and removal from a pocket. It is surrounded by a reproduction of the Moscow monument of Yuri Gagarin. The pen features a piston filling system, providing ink flow to a two-tone 18K gold nib with an ebonite feed. Both the ballpoint and fountain pens come in stylish wooden presentation boxes with ink. The top cover of the box is decorated with a metal plaque engraved with Yuri Gagarin’s likeness and an anniversary note in Cyrillic.

To commemorate the 50 years since Yuri Gagarin’s historic spaceflight in 1961, Montegrappa released Gagarin pens in a limited edition consisting of: 1961 silver fountain pens, 1961 silver ballpoint pens, 50 18K gold fountain pens, and 50 18K gold ballpoint pens.
