Description

Hand-painted polychrome figurine of a boxer made of Bing & Grondahl porcelain, produced in the 1960s by Danish artist Svende Jespersen (1895-1985), with model number 2212 T. See the logo at the bottom.

The Bing & Grondahl porcelain factory was founded in 1853 by Wilhelm Gröndahl and his two brothers, art book traders Meyer and Jacob Herman Bing. In 1898, Bing & Grondahl adopted the “Three Towers” as their trademark, an ancient symbol of Copenhagen from Absalon Castle.

Danish artistic production is characterized by the underglaze technique, known as slip glazing, applying glaze before firing rather than after, thus skipping the second firing stage, which involves multiple light layers very similar to watercolor painting. This results in delicate shades and specific patterns in the colors.

Antique stylish furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, especially the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo styles of classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century. Everything was influenced by Napoleon’s reign. It emphasized grandeur and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles are also interesting and worth noting. The next style is Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word barocco – meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly ornate, luxurious furniture pieces designed to shine with splendor and serve as symbols of opulence. Materials were carefully selected and used sparingly to accentuate the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style has influenced modern classic furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style as well is Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion’s paws, eagle heads – these are common features in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
