Montegrappa is the production of exclusive creations of the highest quality, which in turn express so many feelings through the simple act of writing. The Brain Pen, as this new piece by the Italian manufacturer is called, is the result of a long collaboration with the greatest authority in the field of intellect, Professor Restak, a renowned neurologist and author of over 20 books on the human brain. Montegrappa proudly presents a pen that is the outcome of one of the most ambitious projects in its distinguished history.
To create a pen that reflects the complexity of the organ it is dedicated to, Montegrappa’s designers drew inspiration directly from the brain. The connection between the brain and the pen, which exists in the process and art of writing as an extension of human ability to express oneself through the use of the brain, prompted Montegrappa to illustrate this direct intellectual and physical link. This special relationship is symbolically represented by the contrast between the fundamental elements of the pen’s construction, paralleling the human body: the cap is intricate and complex like the human organ of reason, while the body is simple, reflecting the human form.
The cross-section of the brain, based on an ancient illustration, adorns the top of the cap. Its cover represents neural ganglia, while the clip takes the form of the spinal cord. The pen features a spring mechanism and the tip of the clip is lacquered in red or blue, distinguishing the fountain pen from the ballpoint pen. The nib of the fountain pen is engraved with a seahorse image, which refers to the hippocampus, a key component of the human brain and brains of other vertebrates. The hippocampus plays an important role in transferring information from short-term to long-term memory and in spatial orientation.
Each Brain Pen comes with a copy of a book written specifically for Montegrappa by Professor Restak.
