Description
The Montegrappa Icons Series - ICONS is a collection of limited edition writing instruments dedicated to a remarkable yet controversial figure who features prominently on every list of the most powerful, influential personalities of the 20th century. The man who revolutionized boxing at every level is none other than Muhammad Ali. He not only created an enviable ring record but also crafted the image of a heroic personality beyond it. Since 1912, Montegrappa has been producing fountain pens. It is the only company that manufactures them in its original factory.
We present to you the "Tribute to Muhammad Ali," which pays homage to cultural icons, regardless of the fields whose character and achievements have led them to global awards. On November 9, 2005, Muhammad Ali received the Medal of Freedom: “Otto Hahn Peace Medal In Gold” awarded by the United Nations Association in Germany, which he received for his contribution to the human rights movement. In terms of his personality's impact on the 20th century, he became an icon of the highest rank.
To reflect the elements of Muhammad Ali's diverse, varied career, Montegrappa combines several distinctive details in the Icons pen “Tribute to Muhammad Ali”. The nib features the athlete's characteristic victorious silhouette with raised arms, just above the name Ali. The shimmering black resin grip between the nib and the pen body, and the body itself finished with pearl resin with a black stripe running parallel to the body, are designed after the champion boxer's iconic shorts.
To achieve the desired black-and-white effect, Montegrappa used a state-of-the-art material with unique properties. It has half the weight of glass of the same thickness, excellent optical clarity, and light transmission properties. Additionally, it has the ability to withstand extreme temperatures and remarkable bending strength and better resistance to damage. Equally important is the emotional pleasure of the writer, derived from the physical enjoyment of contact with a warm-to-the-touch pen.
The top of the body is adorned with two encircling black bands reminiscent of Ali's sock tops.
The clip, decorated with Montegrappa's characteristic ball, evokes the seam shape on his boxing gloves. The cap layout characterizes speed, while the cap top is shaped like a ring with the inscription “World Championship,” studded with diamonds. Finally, the cap is decorated with a black-signed autograph, and the top features the engraved inscription: “Ali The Greatest of All Time” The limited edition: Icons “Tribute to Muhammad Ali” refers to the boxer's life.
The pen beautifully closes his sports career, which began on October 29, 1960, with his first professional fight against Tunney Hunsaker, and ended with his last fight on December 11, 1981, against Trevor Berbick.
Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1984, Ali is still regarded and perceived as an extraordinary man and athlete.
The number 1942 is the year of his birth. The number 61 represents the number of professional fights he had, including 56 victories, 37 by knockout. Guided by these numbers, Montegrappa created 1942 fountain pens and 1942 rollerball pens made of resin and sterling silver, as well as 61 fountain pens and 56 rollerball pens made of gold.
There is also an exclusive “knockout” edition, with gold finishes, studded with diamonds on the cap top. Only 37 pieces will be produced, and the customer will decide whether it will be a fountain pen or a rollerball pen. Each gold version will bear a number corresponding to a specific opponent and fight. Each pen will have an engraving with the fighter's name, as well as the date and location of the event.
Muhammad Ali, during one of the few interviews he has given recently, summarized his contribution to world culture, which defines his place in the limited edition "Icons," with a characteristic mix of modesty and boastfulness: …I will say how I would like to be remembered; as a black man who won the heavyweight world championship title, who was witty and treated everyone well, as a man who never looked down on those who admired him, as a man who represented freedom, justice, and equality, and I would like people not to forget how pretty I was."
This exclusive pen is a perfect gift for collectors of timeless icons. It expresses the heroic attitude presented by both Muhammad Ali and Montegrappa in their pursuit of excellence. Highly recommended!
