Description
Gilded wall lamp in Empire style from the late 18th century, obtained from a vase shaped like a palm, made of carved and gilded wood in pure gold color, converted into a wall lamp that was used as a sconce. At the back of the lamp, traces of the arm, an element providing vertical stability, are still visible, as well as side marks of two handles that are no longer present. The central surface of the vase is carved into plaster and decorated with a sculpture depicting a flower garland with two festoons. The end part features an original decoration in the form of a carved leaf, unusual for palms. This gilded 18th-century wall lamp is in good condition, functions properly, and is suitable for an E27 bulb. Minor gilding chips consistent with its age.
Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, dominated by the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Original Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, which imposed significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The next is Baroque, a term derived from Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to shine with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, cornices, sturdy plinths, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French craftsmen. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.
The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the customer’s perspective, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides a certificate confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos.
