Description

From Northern Italy, a rare set of six gilded wrought iron arms from the 18th century, hanging lantern brackets suitable as wall sconces, only modified with insert replacements. These iron arms are fully handcrafted with curved, twisted iron structures, decorated with elegant gilded wrought iron leaves and gilded spheres.
Good age-related condition, six arms share the same shape and construction but vary slightly in size, with minor chips and missing gilded spheres in four pieces. The gilding on the arms is in good condition, making them excellent as wall sconces, with the advantage of flipping the iron parts compared to their original use. Small flaws are present in the leaf tips of the arms, visible in the photos. Northern Italy, 1700.

Originally, these Italian works of art were arms mounted in a ring on the wall, used to support chains of votive lamps in churches, as evidenced by hooks at the ends or discs on some, suitable for lighting and maintaining lamps.

Luxury antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevailing Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from Napoleon’s reign. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style is also significant, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and leaving a major mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, cornices, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands recreate such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of original antique furniture is authenticity. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s compliance with its description and photos. We also have experts in art appraisal, history, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
