Fire Alchemist Montegrappa Fountain Pen

A true work of art is a joy for the soul and the eye. Alchemist represents the four elements: air, fire, earth, and water. Inspired by the novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho, the Italian manufacturer Montegrappa created the fountain pen: “Alchemist”. The collection was officially launched in Bassano del Grappa on Saint Joseph’s Day, March 19, 2012. When the pen was first presented to the writer, Paulo remarked: “I am impressed by the great power of this pen.” The pen is heavy, not only in weight but also in the message and symbols that are incorporated throughout the entire pen.

 Only 125 copies of each element represent the four elements. Montegrappa has created an extraordinarily beautiful pen, highly expressive in its structure. The design of the pen embodies the spiritual essence of the novel. This pen makes a remarkable impression, and the craftsmanship and precision in reproducing its details place it, in our opinion, among the most beautiful pens of the past few years! The body is a symbolic representation of the universe concept from "The Alchemist," where the central ring with the sun separates the sky from the lower parts. The wheels represent the seven alchemical processes, and the names of the seven cosmic elements are engraved on the casing. On the pyramid, there is a fragment of each metal. The tip of the pen is adorned with "Divine Eye" gazing at the Earth.

In 1986, Brazilian author Paulo Coelho undertook a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. This event inspired him to write the novel "The Pilgrimage." The following year, he wrote and published "The Alchemist," which became a worldwide bestseller. Over 65 million copies have been published, translated into 71 languages. This is a world record for the most translations of a book published during the author’s lifetime.  An apparently simple story about a shepherd seeking happiness, it takes the form of a travel adventure, thanks to fascinating characters who influence his decisions.

The Alchemist edition includes a total of 1987 fountain pens and ballpoint pens to commemorate the year of the novel’s first publication.  71 pieces of the Solid Gold edition (38 fountain pens and 33 ballpoint pens) — representing the number of languages into which the novel has been translated.

Alchemists were pioneers in chemistry, biology, and metallurgy. Montegrappa is an alchemist in the field of writing instruments manufacturing. The Alchemist pen will be a milestone in the history of these instruments.
