Description
The Mayans placed great importance on timekeeping. In their culture, the calendar was more than just a tool for measuring days; it expressed their philosophy and worldview. The Mayans created an empire across present-day Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, and Belize. They developed agriculture, astronomy, and architecture. They conducted astronomical observations, studying the movements of the Sun, Moon, and stars. A proud symbol of Italian style and creativity, Montegrappa, through the new series from the limited edition collection of writing instruments Mayan Calendar, aims to honor this extraordinary culture.
It is striking that for many years, scholars believed that the Mayan Calendar predicted the end of the world on December 21, 2012. Whatever the truth, it turns out there is still time to enjoy the exclusive Limited Series by Montegrappa, dedicated precisely to the Mayan calendar. Considering the time constraints that inspired Montegrappa, the pen is naturally and truly a limited collection.
On the surface of the decorated pen, distinguishing it from others, are engraved images of Mayan gods and patterns reproducing Mayan architecture. The pen clip itself is very expressive — a sword used by Mayan priests offering sacrifices to the gods. All fountain pens in the collection are equipped with a built-in piston filling mechanism by Montegrappa. Engaging the cap, which activates the piston, provides the same sensitivity as winding a mechanical watch. The nibs are made of 18-karat gold and feature a magnificent ebonite feed. Most components of the pen are decorated using "lost wax" casting and are meticulously finished by hand. The cap and body in the gold version of the pens are also hand-engraved.
Available in silver or solid 18K gold, both versions are finished with transparent enamel and an innovative full bronze version. Created by the Mayans, 360 days divided into 18 months of 20 days each, the silver and bronze versions will be offered in limited editions of only 360 fountain pens and 360 ballpoint pens. The Gold version will include only 20 fountain pens and 20 ballpoints. The Mayan Calendar collection also includes limited edition cufflinks in silver (360 pieces), bronze (360 pieces), and 20 in solid 18K gold.
The cultural heritage developed by the Mayan civilization is reflected in the monumental structures of today’s buildings, astronomy, and art. Montegrappa, inspired by the spirit of civilizational development, has crowned their achievements with a truly luxurious pen.
