Description

Hanukkah lamp in the Art Deco style from the early 20th century Menorah, Poland, circa 1920. Essential design and timeless elegance characterize this antique silver Jewish lamp, handcrafted with a rectangular base and two spherical supports connected to a square-section body in the shape of a half-moon. It features eight oil reservoirs and an original lamp inserted in the center.
Marked with the JS silver hallmark and the Polish silver mark on the base.

The lamp is in good condition, originating from a villa by Lake Maggiore, weighs 533 grams, and is in good shape aside from a small dent on the edge of the candle holder and one on the edge of the base. The Hanukkah holiday commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian Seleucid army. The victorious Maccabees wanted to rededicate the Jerusalem temple but found only a small vial that was supposed to last just one day, yet miraculously lasted a week. Hanukkah celebrates the victory of light over darkness.

Luxurious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess distinctive character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own characteristic features.

There are numerous styles defining antique furniture, but a few stand out as the most significant. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, dominated by the Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this included antique neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. It features strong references to Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in opulence. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how the Baroque style has greatly influenced modern classical furniture, which often resembles the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and solid, often finished with brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and relief decorations. These pieces were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and classical themes were popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially relevant when seeking exclusive antique pieces suited to a specific interior.

The key aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides certification confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photographs. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts worldwide.
