Description
Dahl Jensen Pekingese Dog made of hand-painted polychrome porcelain, designed and produced by Dahl Jensen (1874 - 1960). It is in perfect condition, with the DJ Copenhagen Denmark mark and model number 1146 on the bottom.
Dahl Jensen worked at the Danish Bing & Grøndahl manufactory as a designer from 1897 to 1925 before establishing his own porcelain company, Dahl Jensen. He passed away in 1960 and left the factory to his grandchildren. In 1984, the factory and production were closed.
Danish artistic production is characterized by the underglaze technique, known as slip-glazing, applying glaze before firing rather than after, thus skipping the second firing stage. This creates layers very similar to watercolor painting, where colors take on delicate shades and specific patterns.
Luxurious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, especially the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon, featuring significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable antique styles include Rococo and Louis XV. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese 'barocco' meaning irregular pearl, was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to impress with splendor. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which often resembles the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using dark stains, cornices, strong bases, and relief decorations. These pieces often featured mythological and ancient motifs, with supports and legs shaped like animals, such as lion paws or eagle heads. Many global brands recreate such furniture, inspired by Italian and French craftsmen, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character, which is crucial when selecting exclusive antique pieces for your interior.
The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately important for buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have experts, including art appraisers, historians, and specialists from around the world, available to assist you.
