Description
Dahl Jensen Pekingese Dog made of hand-painted polychrome porcelain, designed and produced by Dahl Jensen (1874 - 1960). It is in perfect condition, with the DJ Copenhagen Denmark mark and model number 1146 on the bottom.
Dahl Jensen worked at the Danish Bing & Grøndahl manufactory as a designer from 1897 to 1925 before establishing his own porcelain manufacturing company, Dahl Jensen. He passed away in 1960 and left the factory to his grandchildren. In 1984, the factory and production were closed.
Danish artistic production is characterized by the underglaze technique, known as slip-glazing, applying glaze before firing rather than after, thus skipping the second firing stage. This results in very delicate, watercolor-like layers, where colors gain subtle shades and specific patterns.
Luxurious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, especially the Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this included neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe, and Victorian styles. Toward the end of the century, these evolved into pseudo-styles of classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.
Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. This style features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable antique styles include Rococo and Louis XV. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was highly ornate, designed to radiate splendor and luxury. These pieces used exclusive materials to emphasize their grandeur.
Today, we see how much the Baroque style has influenced modern classical furniture, which often resembles the historic period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, featuring brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and relief decorations. These products often incorporated mythological and classical motifs, with supports and legs shaped like animals, such as lion paws or eagle heads. Many global brands recreate such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country had its own approach to furniture making, giving each style a unique character—crucial when selecting an exclusive antique for your interior.
The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately important for buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
