The first is based on the idea that everyday objects should be aesthetically pleasing, but primarily functional, made in an elegant, simple style — with symmetrical lines, from solid materials, where each element is carefully thought out in the final form.
Art Noveau is the complete opposite of Thistle — decorated items combine functionality with artistic craftsmanship, ornate Art Nouveau, and asymmetry.
