Description

Charming Italian neoclassical wall bracket, beautifully gilded, with a delicate carved acanthus leaf motif, decorated with a stunning red Armenian icon of Bole, with a rectangular linear top, potentially suitable as a clock from a private Milanese collection of Italian origin, dating back to the mid-1800s.

Good condition related to age. Excellent patina, original gilding and gilded details, with only minor gold loss and signs of wear consistent with mid-19th century age.

Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the Victorian English style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, characterized by strong influences from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, such as Louis XVI style, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—features highly ornate furniture designed to impress with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which often closely resembles the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using dark stains, moldings, strong bases, and relief carvings. These pieces were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly conceived chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global companies reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to and preservation of the finest Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially crucial when seeking a high-end antique that fits perfectly into a specific interior.

The key aspect of authentic antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately vital for buyers, as the market is flooded with forgeries. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching its description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
