Description

Charming Italian neoclassical wall bracket, beautifully gilded, featuring a delicate carved acanthus leaf motif, decorated with a stunning red Armenian icon of the Virgin Mary, with a rectangular linear top, possibly suitable as a clock from a private collection of Italian origin, dating back to the mid-1800s.

Good condition related to age. Excellent patina, original gilding and paintwork, with only minor gold loss and signs of wear consistent with mid-19th century age.

Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from the Napoleonic era. It features significant influences from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to impress with splendor and serve a role in opulence. Materials were chosen selectively to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which often mirrors the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using dark stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These pieces were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global companies reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to and preservation of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that fits your interior.

The key aspect of original antique furniture is authenticity. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and correspondence with the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
