Description
Charming Italian neoclassical wall bracket, beautifully gilded, featuring a delicate carved acanthus leaf motif, decorated with a stunning red Armenian icon of the Virgin Mary, with a rectangular linear top, possibly suitable for a clock from a private collection of Italian origin, dating to the mid-1800s.
Good age-related condition. Excellent patina, original gilding and gilded details, with only minor losses of gold leaf and signs of wear consistent with mid-19th century age.
Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, characterized by strong influences from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—features highly ornate furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and serve a luxurious purpose. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which often mirrors the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using dark stains, moldings, strong bases, and relief decorations. These pieces were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and classical themes were popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global companies reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially relevant when selecting an exclusive antique for your interior.
The key aspect of original antique furniture is authenticity. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with forgeries. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and accurate description and photographs. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
