Brand History

Both founders, Luciano and Marilena Tellatin, started their careers in pottery at just sixteen years old and decided to establish their own company after years working as employees in two different antique factories. In their garage, then in a shed, in 1982, they began a story that continues to this day. Deep passion and dedication are the elements that drive the founders, supported by young entrepreneurship—son Alberto. He joined the family business in 2000 after earning a teaching degree from the Art Institute of Nove: representing the future of a brand that still has much to offer clients and partners.

Over 30 years of experience, elegant collections, harmonious forms, respect for craftsmanship—primarily artisanal and traditional work—and ultimately, endless investment in the ceramic heritage of antique Nove: these are the qualities that make Ceramiche ML exceptionally unique, dynamic, respectful of ancient pottery traditions, yet enthusiastic about the future.

The place where everything happens is located in the province of Vicenza. This site has been recognized as one of the best examples of Italian ceramic tradition since the sixteenth century: a land enriched with artisanal knowledge, artists, sculptors, and ancient factories known worldwide. The Nove and Bassano regions are full of old manufactories whose work contributed to building the reputation of the ceramic district, decorating homes’ furniture worldwide.

The history of this place tells of a long-standing tradition rooted in the 17th century, thanks to factors such as underground clay deposits, “lottame” (limestone rich in mineral silica), kaolin, and the use of the Brenta River for transporting finished products, wood for kilns, and powering water mills. These mills are used for mixing clay and grinding pebbles found at the riverbed.

An additional factor fostering the prestigious ceramic tradition in this region was the Venetian Senate decree. In fact, in the 17th century, the growing and increasingly widespread demand for fine ceramics in China prompted Dutch ceramists to imitate these works, flooding the Venice market with their products. Consequently, in 1728, the Venetian Senate decided to increase domestic production through tax incentives for those producing porcelain and improving majolica manufacturing, thus fostering the birth of the ceramic district in Nove.

The production area of the district remains focused on the municipalities of Nove and Bassano, surrounded by a dense network of companies that have contributed to the region’s worldwide reputation for excellence and uniqueness—qualities that cannot be found elsewhere in Italy.
