To celebrate the most refined of artistic forms – Opera, Montegrappa has decided to honor it with the collection "Emozioni di Musica", a fact beyond dispute. "The Barber of Seville" by Gioachino Rossini is for opera connoisseurs what Miles Davis is for jazz lovers, and Pink Floyd for rock fans.
This legendary opera has been interpreted by the finest voices of the last two centuries, with leading roles played by such personalities as Tito Gobi, Beverley Sills, Placido Domingo, Maria Callas, and many others.

To best capture the spirit of Rossini’s work, Montegrappa chose to use the traditional lost-wax casting method. The work on the pen begins with meticulous carving that takes many months, allowing each piece to have a unique character, the result of a single artisan’s effort. To reflect the beauty of details and the finesse of the sculpture, precious metals were used. The molds are cast using a forgotten wax method, and the final effect is achieved through hand finishing by a master.

Just like in theatrical decoration, the body of the pen is adorned with a view of eighteenth-century Seville, featuring the Giralda bell tower and the Golden Tower.
Montegrappa’s sculptor drew inspiration from the Moorish style of ancient buildings in Seville, which influenced the unusual shape of the pen’s end. The cap is decorated with scenes from the opera: Figaro holding a guitar, appearing near Don Bartolo’s balcony, singing one of the most famous arias – “Largo al factotum”. The upper part of the cap in the silver version of the fountain pen and ballpoint pen is embellished with azulejo [a type of thin tile used to create artistic mosaics], a material characteristic of Andalusia, which still adorns many of Seville’s most famous buildings, and motifs borrowed from azulejo decorate the clip.
Giuseppe Aquila, President of Montegrappa, proudly emphasizes that in the gold version with precious stones, part of the Italian exclusive collection – the azulejo is a composition of diamonds with pave cut and turquoise inserts. Diamonds also adorn the body, cap, and clip. It was developed and refined by skilled Montegrappa artisans, who give the metal a shade of blue by coloring it, creating an illusion of depth in the sculpture.

To showcase the starry sky from the first act of Montegrappa’s opera, the best blue celluloid with mother-of-pearl and shimmering streaks was used.
The nib in the silver version of the fountain pen is decorated with white and yellow gold. Each nib is engraved with the window of Don Bartolo’s house, from which Rosina listens to the moving serenade of Count Almaviva.
Limited edition pen: “Invitation to The Barber of Seville” is packaged in an ornate box reminiscent of the shapes, colors, and scenes from the opera: the white of old Seville buildings, the famous colonnade of the Alcázar courtyard, with azulejo motifs on many of the packaging.

Once again, this distinguished manufactory captures our attention with an extraordinary writing instrument. It is yet another captivating fountain pen.
