Bamboo Black Gold Fountain Pen New St Andrews 2012

An Italian company specializing in the production of the most elegant and desirable writing instruments Montegrappa has been asked for the second time to create a pen to honor the greatest breakthrough event in golf: the creation of the St Andrews golf course. Based on its experience as a pioneer among luxury writing instrument manufacturers, Montegrappa is proud to offer the perfect pen to commemorate "Home Of Golf" – the headquarters of golf, the St Andrews golf courses.

In 2010, the 150th anniversary of "The Open Championship" was celebrated at the oldest golf course in the world – "The Old Course" in St Andrews. This inspired the creation of a new range of writing instruments produced by Montegrappa, showcasing the quality, history, and beauty associated with the golf courses in St. Andrews.

This collection features green celluloid with a detailed cabochon golf ball on the cap and the St Andrews golf course logo on the body, which, according to Montegrappa, pays tribute to six centuries of golf played at St Andrews, from around 1400 AD. During the 19th century, golf evolved from factory workers' pastime to a way of life for the local community. Golf remains a cultural and economic cornerstone of St Andrews to this day.
In the 2012 edition, Montegrappa offers a fountain pen and a ballpoint pen in versions made of black resin and sterling silver or celluloid in bamboo black color with 18K rose gold. The writing instruments made of sterling silver will be produced in a limited edition of 600 pieces each; this number signifies the years of golf played at St Andrews. The gold versions include only 7 fountain pens and 7 ballpoint pens to represent the number of golf courses there.
The final, special, hand-engraved edition called "18th Hole" completes the collection with 18 fountain pens and 18 ballpoint pens crafted from 18K rose gold and green celluloid. The pattern on the body depicts a golfer in period attire preparing to strike. The image has been skillfully recreated from an original photograph by engraver Mario Rossetti. The ring surrounding the cap is decorated with golf images.
