Description
La Traviata – Giuseppe Verdi's opera from 1853, based on A. Dumas' The Lady of the Camellias. It brought fame to its creator during its debut at the Fenice Opera House in Venice on 06.03.1853 and inspired Montegrappa to create another writing instrument in their limited "Emozioni in Musica" collection.
The incredible character of Violetta – the opera's heroine – has been precisely depicted on the pen's body. Her face is crafted in (depending on the version) solid silver (925) or gold (18K). The cap's top is decorated with a camellia flower, which Violetta always wore in her state (part of her dress) to highlight her beautiful face.
The delicately contoured cap is adorned with a red celluloid ring, which in a more luxurious version is made with a diadem set with 12 diamonds. The clip features a typical 18th-century ornament – from the period when the opera takes place. The clip of the gold version of the pen, decorated with precious stones, is embellished with pavé diamonds and two diamonds on the sides. The camellia decorations on the body are created using a engraving technique called low-relief (flat relief). In the center of the body, between the decorations, is depicted an extraordinary face of Violetta. During the creation of this decoration in the Silver version, a chisel engraving method was used. In the gold and diamond versions, the hot enamel technique was employed. An ancient technique mastered by only a few artists worldwide. Exceptional skill is required to apply it flawlessly.
Montegrappa chose solid silver (925) for the production of this pen. The remaining parts are made of red-colored celluloid, which has always been associated with passion.
18K gold nib – made of white gold with decorations in yellow gold in the Silver version, and yellow gold with decorations in white gold in the more luxurious versions – decorated with the initials "V.V." representing Violetta Valery. Each writing instrument in this series includes an ornate box inspired by the curtains of 18th-century operas. The entire series is crafted with meticulous attention to detail by world-class artisans.
The detailed craftsmanship ensures comfort of use and satisfaction with such an original and luxurious product, which undoubtedly includes the limited editions of Montegrappa.
