Description

Unconventional design combined with the highest quality raw materials and craftsmanship give the image of the Florence Art brand.

Tradition

Among the streets of Florence, you can breathe art, from S. Croce to Ponte Vecchio, and then again among sculptures, paintings, and furnishings of the Medici villas — a unique city, territory, where artists and artisans have found their life force for centuries. The Florence Art brand was born in 1950 from this tradition, the manual skills of Tuscan craftsmen, love for art and beauty, passion for classics and what made this territory great. It originated as a sculptural workshop and has always been a manufacturing brand that researches new products, designs them, creates samples, hand-sculpts them entirely, pantographs them, and prepares them for decoration. All production is carried out entirely in Florentine style; each element is designed by one of our designers and is unique.

Design

With its in-house designers, sculptors, and carpenters, Florence Art can execute any type of work, even outside the Florentine style, as evidenced by some projects made for luxury hotels. On every Florence Art item, modifications and adjustments can be made, including fully manual modifications by carpenters. This way, the brand can furnish a bedroom, living room, bathroom, or boudoir according to your design.

Style

The Florentine style is characterized by the way sculptures, finishes, and designs are executed, and these features are unique to a very small area — Florence. Each item made in the Florentine style has carved parts, but with a current, fresh, elegant taste; every part is well “toothed,” meaning well-defined, harmonizing with a classic yet youthful style. The lines of the items are simultaneously elegant and romantic. Silver, colored, and gold finishes make each line even more elegant and youthful.

Pattern and Sculpture

Sculpture results from the increasingly challenging Florentine tradition’s heritage, distinguished by grace and harmony, and is a key element in highlighting and identifying the entire production line. As in Florence, it cannot be confused with other regions. Skilled professionals with strong design abilities and stylistic knowledge are required, such as a “sculptor” who must create models of each item and then sculpt them.

A model is the part used to reproduce the sculpture with a pantograph; to produce it, an illustration of the item at scale is needed first, then it is entirely hand-sculpted in wood. It is cut into pieces because the pantograph works on segments no wider than about 20 cm and about 190 cm long. The pantograph, which duplicates the model into 16 or 24 pieces, is operated by a specialist “panto-grapher,” who must know how to assemble the carved elements. Only these three professionals ensure a higher-skilled, more valuable production process.

Decoration

Decoration, always entirely handmade, becomes an even more skilled element in various finishes. Those made in Florence are incomparable to those from any other region:

“Gouache” decoration, used throughout art history from the Renaissance — which originated in Florence — and in all other stylistic periods, applies to both gold leaf (e.g., Zecchino and Antique Patina) and genuine silver leaf finishes (Ghiaccio, Bianco, Consumato, Strappato). These can be further treated with Meccata (covered with a special, ancient color, still used today, called Mekka), to resemble gold when there was no budget for real gold in the past.
