Description

From Switzerland, an impressive pair of 20th-century round silver candelabras, finely decorated with two stunningly applied heads of Native American Indians and richly carved with floral, botanical, and repoussé motifs featuring acanthus leaf patterns. Marked 800 for the 800/000 silver standard, P.K. initials of the silver manufacturer, and coq de bruyère, a Swiss mark used from 1882 to 1934 for 800 silver. These two antique candelabras originate from the furnishings of a Lombard villa on Lake Como and are in good condition.

Prestigious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, such as Louis XVI style, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in luxury interiors. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style is also significant, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and leaving a profound mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired many details, with supports and legs taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles were perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for exclusive antiques suitable for your interior.

The key aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching its description and photos. We also offer access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
