Description

Stunning 18th-century Italian gilded copper pitcher with a round body featuring a four-part repoussé decoration defined by a double vertical ribbed frame, framing panels adorned with floral scrolls; the background of these sections is finely stippled to emphasize the very pleasing relief of the embossed parts through polishing. An exquisite and unique handcrafted pitcher, selected from a private collection of Northern Italy.

This rare gold pitcher was created for serving wine during Eucharistic celebration, a Christian liturgical practice. An outstanding Italian piece for collectors, dated to 1700, with magnificent fire-gilding. It is in good age-related condition despite a small dent in the central part of the body, consistent with 18th-century dating. The cast handle references the volute motif present on the body of the pitcher. The spout is closed with a hinged lid with a small floral knob, with minimal deformations near the hinge that slightly hinder its perfect closure. At the top, there are welding marks in the horizontal part, due to the glass jar inserted inside the graphic and sealed with plaster at the end of the neck.

Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Several major styles stand out among antique furniture. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevailing Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles transition into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also strongly references ancient architecture. Notable and noteworthy are antique products in Rococo style and Louis XV. Next is Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to further emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired many details, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global companies reproduce such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style its unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of authentic antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and correspondence with the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
