Kenneth Cobonpue is a multiple award-winning designer and manufacturer of exclusive furniture from Cebu, Philippines. His transition into design began in 1987, studying industrial design at Pratt Institute in New York. During his studies, he completed leather and wood workshops in Florence, Italy. He then studied furniture marketing and production at Export-Akademie Baden-Württemberg in Reutlingen, Germany. All of this was part of private and government scholarship programs. Kenneth returned home to Cebu in 1996 to manage the Interior Crafts of the Islands, Inc., a furniture design and manufacturing company founded by his mother Betty Cobonpue in 1972.

Discovering that avant-garde design can have a new face using natural fibers and materials, Kenneth created functional art pieces that serve as an alternative to the Western definition of modern design. Today, the KENNETH COBONPUE workshop has become known worldwide for its stunning designs and a rich clientele, including Hollywood stars and members of royal families.

World designers

Thanks to his masterful way of combining nature, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative technologies, designer and creative director Kenneth Cobonpue has received international awards and recognition for his creative, eco-friendly, and distinctive works. Collaborating with some of the leading global designers, from local names to emerging talents, Kenneth started designing in the Philippines and shared his vision with a worldwide audience.

Numerous awards and recognitions are his personal successes. The five most important awards include the Japan Good Design Awards, the main prize at the Singapore International Design Competition, the Design for Asia Award in Hong Kong, the American Society of Decorators' Best Brands selection, and the French Coup de Coeur award. His projects have been featured in several editions of the International Design Yearbook published in London and New York. The Phaidon book titled "& WIDELEC" highlights Kenneth's position as a leader of a new movement combining new technologies with craftsmanship. In 2007, TIME magazine named him "the first rattan virtuoso." Kenneth was named Designer of the Year at the first Maison et Objet Asia held in March 2014 in Singapore.
